Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled an ambitious initiative to deploy 5,000 electric buses across the province over the next five years, aiming to modernize public transportation and provide commuters with a cleaner and more reliable travel experience.
As part of the first phase of the project, 1,500 electric buses will be introduced in 91 tehsils. The government has confirmed that 189 buses are ready for deployment, while an additional 488 electric buses are expected to arrive from China later this month.
To support the long-term expansion of the project, Punjab has also started assembling electric buses locally. The initiative is expected to reduce carbon emissions, encourage eco-friendly transportation, strengthen local manufacturing, and improve access to modern public transit throughout the province.
