Lahore has introduced an e-challan system to tackle littering as part of the Suthra Punjab initiative. Anti-littering teams are being deployed to monitor roads, markets, and commercial areas and discourage people from dumping waste in public places.
Those caught littering may receive a warning for a first violation, while repeated offences could result in legal action and fines under Punjab’s cleanliness regulations.
Reports have also claimed that AI-powered cameras are being used to identify littering in around 200 markets and issue automated challans. However, this specific claim could not be independently verified. Meanwhile, penalties of up to Rs500,000 are applicable to certain offences, including burning waste or tyres.
