Pakistan is planning to acquire 45 new bulletproof luxury vehicles worth Rs. 9.6 billion to provide security for foreign leaders attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in September 2027.
The planned fleet will consist of 30 Mercedes-Benz Maybach S680 Guard sedans, already approved at a cost of Rs. 6.6 billion, and 15 BMW 760i xDrive armoured vehicles, estimated at around Rs. 3 billion. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reduced the initial requirement from 65 vehicles to 45.
The purchase requires an exemption from the government’s ban on vehicle procurement. Authorities are also considering exemptions from taxes and duties for these specialised vehicles.
