Pakistan is expected to keep its current Auto Industry Development and Export Policy (AIDEP) in effect for another year after policymakers were unable to reach an agreement on a new automotive policy during discussions with the IMF and the Tariff Policy Board.
Although the previous policy officially ended in late June, authorities have not yet finalized its replacement. Government officials say the updated draft still requires additional consultations with the IMF before it can receive formal approval.
Until the revised policy is completed, the existing AIDEP will remain in force, providing continuity for the automotive industry while negotiations on wider tariff reforms continue.
