The Punjab government has entered into an agreement with Pakistan Railways to introduce both high-speed and local train services across the province.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi. As part of the plan, a fast train will run between Lahore and Rawalpindi, reducing travel time to approximately two hours and fifteen minutes. In addition, eight local train routes spanning nearly 1,415 kilometers across 20 districts have also been proposed.
This railway network will link key cities and regions, including Sialkot, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and areas of southern Punjab. The project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and provide benefits to around 90 million people.
