Budget 2026-27: Federal excise duty introduced on imported vehicles
While presenting the Federal Budget 2026-27, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb announced that the government will impose Federal Excise Duty (FED) on imported vehicles.
Under the new measures, SUVs with engine capacities ranging from 2,000cc to 3,000cc will be subject to FED, while vehicles with engines above 3,000cc will face higher excise duties. Additionally, electric vehicles valued above Rs20 million will also fall under the FED regime.
The minister stated that the government’s new auto policy is currently being reviewed by a committee formed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
However, existing incentives for electric motorcycles, rickshaws, and buses will continue. A 1% sales tax relief has also been proposed for imported electric trucks.
