LAHORE – Citizens have received some relief as traffic police have been directed not to issue challans to motorcycles and rickshaws until Eid al-Fitr 2026.
The new instructions were given because petrol prices are increasing, which is creating financial pressure not only for the public but also for government departments.
Officials said that if fuel prices continue to rise, even the Chief Traffic Officer and traffic police staff might start using motorcycles instead of cars for their daily work.
Traffic officers have also been told not to keep their vehicles standing on roads with engines running, so fuel can be saved. If petrol prices reach what officials called a third stage of increase, traffic police may take even stricter fuel-saving steps.
At the same time, citizens have been requested to avoid unnecessary use of cars and motorcycles to reduce fuel consumption during this difficult time.
This situation shows how the global fuel crisis is affecting everyday life, where even traffic police may soon replace patrol cars with motorcycles.
