Punjab’s DG Excise, Omar Sheikh Chatha, said in an interview that vehicles registered in other provinces or under federal authority can now be transferred and re-registered in Punjab and issued a new number plate.
Vehicle owners will now be able to register their cars in Punjab by paying a small transfer fee. This move will ensure that vehicles already being used in the province contribute to Punjab’s taxes instead of continuing to pay token taxes or transfer charges in other regions.
Under the new procedure, owners will first need to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned province or federal authority. Once that is done, the vehicle will be issued a new Punjab registration number.
Chatha said that this initiative will also boost the resale value of vehicles. He added that the Punjab government is working in coordination with other provinces and, with the support of PITB, has developed a centralized database. The system is now ready, and re-registration will be rolled out across the province later this month.
