Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced free public transport across major cities of the province to provide immediate relief to people facing rising petrol prices.
The free service covers major transport systems including the Orange Line Train, Metro Bus, Speedo Bus, and Green Electric Bus.
This step is part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s broader austerity and savings plan being implemented in Punjab. Maryam Nawaz termed this relief initiative a historic move aimed at supporting citizens during challenging global economic conditions.
Along with free transport, the government has also introduced financial relief for farmers and motorcycle users. Farmers will be given a diesel subsidy of Rs100 per litre per acre, while registered motorcycle owners will receive Rs100 on every 20 litres of fuel.
Maryam Nawaz appreciated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for keeping petroleum prices stable in Pakistan for a month despite global pressures. She added that billions of rupees have been allocated to ease the burden on the public during tough times.
