The National Highway & Motorway Police (NHMP) have lowered the speed limits on motorways and national highways to help save fuel and use energy more efficiently.
According to the new rules, cars and Light Transport Vehicles (LTVs) can now drive at a maximum speed of 100 km/h on motorways, which was previously 120 km/h, and 80 km/h on national highways.
For Passenger Service Vehicles (PSVs) and Heavy Transport Vehicles (HTVs), the speed limit has been set at 90 km/h on motorways and 65 km/h on highways.
This decision has been taken following the Prime Minister’s instructions. The purpose is to reduce fuel consumption, make roads safer, and promote energy saving across the country. Authorities have also started awareness campaigns to inform drivers about the new speed limits.
