In a major step toward enhancing women’s public transport in Balochistan, the provincial government has formally introduced the Pink Bus Service in Quetta. Launched at the beginning of 2026, the project is designed to offer women and female students a secure, respectful, and convenient travel option throughout the city.
The initiative was officially unveiled by Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti, who described it as a key part of the government’s social development strategy. The dedicated women-only transport service is intended to improve access to schools, offices, and healthcare centers.
Although the service has been launched in Quetta initially, the provincial government has outlined plans for a gradual expansion. After evaluating its success in the provincial capital, the Pink Bus Service is likely to be extended to other major districts of Balochistan. The expansion aims to reduce transport challenges faced by women in underserved areas, encouraging greater social participation and economic empowerment.
This initiative mirrors similar projects in other provinces, including Sindh, where the Pink Bus Service has already become popular among regular commuters.
Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti assured citizens that the government is fully committed to maintaining the service on a permanent basis. Unlike earlier trial projects, the 2026 Pink Bus Service is supported by a comprehensive sustainability strategy to keep the buses running efficiently and properly maintained.
The introduction of the Pink Bus Service is widely being praised as a meaningful move toward women’s empowerment, as it directly tackles one of the biggest challenges women face in joining the workforce—access to safe and dependable transportation.
