The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMTA) has announced a 33% hike in metro bus fares across major cities of Punjab, increasing the cost of daily commutes for passengers.
According to officials, the new fares will be implemented starting March 26, 2026. The authority has raised ticket prices by Rs 10 on all Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) routes, including the Lahore Metrobus.
Under this revised structure, commuters using the Red Metro Bus services in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan will now have to pay Rs 40 per trip.
The authorities explained that the fare increase was necessary to cover rising operational expenses and ensure the quality and efficiency of public transport services.
However, there is relief for Green Transport Card holders, who can continue to travel at a discounted rate of Rs 25 per trip, saving Rs 15 compared to the new fare.
Officials noted that while the fare increase may put extra financial pressure on daily commuters, the discounted card system is intended to help frequent passengers manage costs more effectively.
