*Public Transport Charges Increased by 25% Following Fuel Price Hike*
According to reports, public transport operators across Pakistan have raised fares by up to 25% following the recent increase in fuel prices.
For example, the fare from Lahore to Islamabad has gone up from Rs 2,670 to Rs 3,338, while Lahore to Peshawar now costs Rs 3,200, up from Rs 2,530.
Similarly, Lahore to Faisalabad fares increased from Rs 980 to Rs 1,300, and Lahore to Karachi fares rose from Rs 5,800 to Rs 7,250.
Other fare hikes include:
Lahore to Multan: Rs 1,650 → Rs 2,063
Lahore to Sukkur: Rs 3,400 → Rs 4,250
Lahore to Murree: Rs 2,290 → Rs 2,863
Lahore to Sadiqabad: Rs 2,430 → Rs 3,038
Some passengers said the price increase is making life harder for low-income families, who are now forced to choose between daily meals and travel costs.
Transport operators, however, defended the hike, saying that rising fuel prices and higher costs of spare parts have increased operating expenses. They warned that without raising fares, many services could be suspended.
