One of the key measures announced focuses on motorcyclists, making the installation of safety rods compulsory on all bikes during the Basant festival.
Lahore Commissioner Maryam Khan, while chairing a meeting attended by representatives of kite flying associations, police, and district administration, stated that “Safe Basant” will be observed on February 6, 7, and 8 strictly within Lahore’s district boundaries.
She said that under the Kite Flying Ordinance 2025, motorcycles that do not have safety rods installed will not be permitted to operate on city roads throughout the three-day event.
To ensure safety, the administration will establish 100 road safety camps across Lahore, where nearly one million safety rods are expected to be fitted.
Officials added that these camps will have the capacity to install safety rods on around 50,000 to 60,000 motorcycles per day. The commissioner also made it clear that a complete ban on kite flying will stay in effect until February 6.
