The National Highways and Motorway Police has started a safety campaign called “Challan Nahi, Helmet” to encourage motorcyclists travelling on national highways to wear helmets.
Under this campaign, officers stop riders who are not wearing helmets and advise them to buy and wear one before any fine is issued. According to officials, the price of a helmet is almost the same as the amount of the traffic challan.
If a motorcyclist immediately purchases and wears a helmet at the spot, the challan is waived. The purpose of this initiative is to promote road safety and spread awareness about the importance of wearing helmets.
Motorway Police spokesperson Inspector Saqib Waheed explained that the campaign focuses on improving the safety of riders on highways. He said that helmets play a crucial role in protecting motorcyclists from serious head injuries during accidents.
He further stated that strict action will be taken against riders who continue travelling without helmets even after purchasing one.
A motorcyclist travelling on the Murree Expressway shared his experience, saying that officers stopped him for not wearing a helmet. Instead of issuing a fine, they advised him to buy and wear a helmet. After purchasing one, he was allowed to continue his journey.
