Pakistan entered the New Year with significant relief for the public as the federal government announced a reduction of over Rs10 per litre in petrol prices for the upcoming fortnight, starting from January 1, 2026.
According to the Petroleum Division, the revised petrol price has been fixed at Rs253.17 per litre until January 15, reflecting a decrease of Rs10.28 per litre. Meanwhile, the price of high-speed diesel has been reduced to Rs257.08 per litre after a Rs8.57 per litre cut.
The decision comes as a welcome relief for the public, especially amid rising inflation and increasing transportation costs. A decrease in fuel prices is expected to ease the financial burden on households and provide some stability to transport fares and essential commodity prices.
Officials stated that the price adjustment was made after reviewing trends in the international oil market and other economic factors. The government aims to pass on maximum relief to consumers whenever global fuel prices decline.
