*Government Considers Fuel Subsidy for Motorcyclists and Rickshaw Drivers Following Price Increase*
The federal government is considering a fuel subsidy for motorcyclists and rickshaw drivers to reduce the burden after the recent petrol price increase. Officials shared this plan during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Petroleum.
Petroleum Secretary Hamed Yaqoob Sheikh said the relief package will focus on small vehicle users, similar to a program started by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.
Officials also said Pakistan currently has enough fuel reserves, with petrol available for about 27 days and diesel for 21 days. The government has also allowed the import of fuel below the Euro-5 standard to maintain supply.
Meanwhile, the petrol monitoring committee, led by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, confirmed that the country’s fuel needs for March are secured, with supplies expected to last until mid-April.
